A cash reward has been offered for information leading to arrests in three cases of children getting shot in north Minneapolis over the last few weeks, one of them fatally.

A $30,000 fund was set up, which represents $10,000 for each incident.

"My daughter was doing something that innocent kids do, at a birthday party," said Rayshawn Smith about one of the incidents. "This has nothing at all to do with our lifestyle, anything, it's just a terrible, terrible, terrible situation."

At a news conference Sunday, Minneapolis Police Chief Medera Arradondo said someone needs to step up and provide information.

"These families should not have to go another night without knowing that we got the persons responsible for harming our babies, because it's all of our children," he said

"Violence is wrong, and we, collectively, as a city, need to have the courage of our conviction to say that little children shouldn't get shot." said Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who joined leaders of the business community in making the announcement.

"By the way, that shouldn't take much courage," he added.

Between April 30 and May 17, 10-year-old Ladavionne Garrett, Jr., 9-year-old Trinity Ottoson-Smith and 6-year-old Aniya Allen were shot.

Aniya Allen died from her injuries this past Tuesday.

The two others remain in critical condition at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale.
