Homeowners near Minneapolis St. Paul International Airport may notice some changes overhead over the next six weeks. They're closing a runway and that could divert some of that air traffic to different areas.
Airport spokesman Jeff Lea says it's phase two of construction that he says is essential to runway safety. MSP Airport has over 32 miles of runways and taxiways.
"Shoulder improvements, drainage, runway grading, and the reconstruction of a taxi ID that is directly connected to that runway," explains Lea.
Lea says traffic patterns in the sky may shift a bit, but says they're ultimately determined by the weather and what is decided by air traffic controllers.
"Some communities may see more overflights, because they're using different runways and different headings, and others may see a drop from what they're normally used to," he adds.
The east-west runway will reopen on September 26.
