Students are back for in-person classes at the University of Minnesota, and while returning to normal means sitting in lecture halls again, there also comes a question of safety.
Senior Kristin Mandeville from Eden Prairie shared with News Talk 830 WCCO's Susie Jones that she doesn't always feel safe while on campus, a sentiment felt by many.
"Honestly, [I'm] nervous at night to walk around alone," Mandeville said.
University of Minnesota Chief of Police Matt Clark touched on safety during a press conference. He noted that students can take action to remain safe along with the campus's new lighting and escort services.
"Walking with a buddy, keeping your phone out of sight, and paying attention to your surroundings," Clark said.
Safety on campus is a big topic for the university, and while it is working to make sure all campuses are safe, the college shared on its website that it also partners with communities "to help keep our off-campus neighborhoods safe."
"In all of these efforts, everyone has a role to play," the site says.
