UPDATE: 12:30 p.m. - The Hopkins Police Department will provide an update at 1:30 p.m. on Monday. You can listen to that press conference live on 830 WCCO or the Audacy App.
Meanwhile, the search for the boy has been called off for now. Police say Waeys Ali Mohamed was least seen around 7:30 yesterday morning near the Chorus apartments off second street northeast in Hopkins.
Waeys is easily startled by noise and is drawn to water.
"He's non-verbal, so with children like this, oftentimes they will hide, oftentimes they will hunker down and not come out, even if they hear their name," said Hopkins Police Captain Craig Kreiling. "We do need people to be checking their properties and everywhere they possibly can in this area."
Police described Waeys, who is Black, as 3 feet 6 inches tall and 40 pounds with short, black hair that is curly.
He was wearing blue pajama pants, no shirt and no shoes when he was last seen.
Much of the search has been in the area of Blake Road North and 2nd Street Northeast in Hopkins, which is near Minnehaha Creek.
"We've had people walking through the water, walking the banks, we've had firemen in their safety suits going in the water itself,"said Kreiling. "We've had some craft in the water in certain areas as well."
Anyone who sees the boy is asked not to startle him and to call 911.
