Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar (DFL) has announced she's been treated for a "spot" following a mammogram. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021.
The 64-year old Klobuchar wrote a letter on social media saying she recently was treated at Mayo Clinic and successfully had a spot removed. She adds that this month, she'll be receiving a few days of radiation "as a precaution."
Klobuchar said in 2021 that the discovery of “small white spots” during a routine mammogram that February had led her to get a biopsy. She soon learned she had Stage 1A breast cancer. Over the spring, she underwent a lumpectomy and completed a course of radiation treatment.
Klobuchar is a former Hennepin County Attorney and was elected to the Senate in 2006. She is up for Election again in 2024.
LETTER
"I wanted to share an update about my health.
I recently had my routine 6-month exam at Mayo Clinic, which I have had regularly ever since being diagnosed with State 1A breast cancer and successfully treated in 2021.
During this visit, a small white spot called a calcification was found. I had a minimally-invasive outpatient procedure to remove it, which was successful, and this month I will have a few days of radiation as a precaution.
Thanks to early detection and diligent follow-up visits, my doctor says I am now cancer-free.
I want to again encourage every Minnesotan and every American to get their routine screenings, exams, and follow-ups. It made a huge difference for me and I know it can make a huge difference for so many others. Our health is not something we can ever take for granted, and this is another reminder that each day is a gift.
Thank you for your support."
