A former substitute teacher at a St. Paul charter school has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting a sixth grade female student multiple times.

29-year-old Taylor Vang of Mounds View was charged in Ramsey County this week with one count of felony fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct with a victim under 14.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press also reports two school administrators said the girl reported Vang touched her thigh the prior spring, when she was a fifth-grader, and that he had already been talked to about hugging young female students.

He's accused of touching the young girl inappropriately numerous times, giving her gifts, and trying to talk to her about sex while teaching at the Community School of Excellence. Vang admitted to hugging and touching students and giving them gifts but denied talking about sex or anything sexual with them.

Vang was fired from his job in early October. The charter school has about 1,500 students enrolled. Those students are in pre-K through 12th grade and most of them are Hmong.
