The new superintendent of St. Paul public schools is Dr. Stacie Stanley.
She was chosen Thursday night by the district's board of education with a unanimous vote following four hours of deliberation.
Stanley is a product of St. Paul public schools, having attended classes in the district from kindergarten through high school graduation.
She comes to St. Paul after nearly three years as superintendent of Edina schools.
Her career includes six years as a principal in Roseville, and a teacher in the East Metro integration district.
The new appointment comes a year after St. Paul schools made more than $100 million in budget cuts, and there are projects of a budget shortfall of nearly $50 million for next year.
Stanley was named a finalist for the post earlier this month.
The other finalists were former Minnesota education commissioner Brenda Cassellius and Hopkins Superintendent Rhoda Mhiripiri-Reed.
She replaces interim superintendent John Thein, who took over the district following the resignation of Joe Gothard.
