Police in Stillwater shot and killed a man who they say was firing a gun inside and outside an apartment building before taking aim at officers.
It happened Saturday afternoon at Curve Crest Villas after police originally responded to an unknown medical call.
Stillwater police chief Brian Mueller says the suspect fired at officers, and one of them returned fire.
The suspect was hit and was later pronounced dead at Regions Hospital in Saint Paul.
None of the officers was hurt during the incident.
It's not known why the suspect started shooting.
At least two people inside the building reportedly were hurt during the earlier gunfire.
Multiple police agencies were at the scene, and people living in the area were told to stay inside for a brief period.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is gathering information about the incident, which is standard procedure.
