Surly Brewing in Minneapolis will reopen their beer hall just in time for summer after closing it indefinitely last fall.

Last September, Surly announced the closure of their beer hall citing complications caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

In their announcement, Surly wrote, "As we complied fully with the safety measures, it became clear that beer halls are by definition gathering places and gathering places and pandemics don’t mix. Because of this, we have made the gut-wrenching decision to close the Beer Hall indefinitely on Oct. 30. Staff will be on premises and payroll until Nov. 2nd as we deep clean and winterize the space."

Earlier this year, Surly founder Omar Ansari hinted that the beer hall could return if COVID-19 regulations loosened, allowing for business to improve.

Surly is among six Minnesota breweries asking the Minnesota legislature to lift the growler cap, which prohibits breweries that produce 20,000 or more barrels of beer per year from selling growlers.
