The main suspect in the 2023 "Nudieland" mass shooting has pleaded guilty.
18-year old Dominic Burris now faces 23 years in prison for his role in the shooting at the backyard concert venue Nudieland in Minneapolis during August of 2023.
The shooting resulted in the death of 35-year old August Golden and traumatic injuries to several others.
In a statement, Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty called the attack senseless.
"It should never have happened, and the length of his sentence will hold Burris accountable for the significant harm he caused and protects our community,” said Moriarty.
The shooting unfolded in the backyard of a home on the 2200 block of 16th Avenue as a local band was finishing a concert with around 30 to 50 people in attendance.
Witnesses told investigators that Burris and Cyrell Boyd were not part of the crowd filled with people in the LGBTQ+ community and allies. At one point, investigators say Boyd and Burris made derogatory comments about the sexual orientations of the people at the concert before several gunshots were fired.
“This was a senseless attack on members of our LGBTQ+ community who were enjoying an evening of music and camaraderie in Minneapolis. I have been continually amazed by the strength of those close to August throughout this process,” Moriarty said. “Mr. Burris’s actions took August’s life and traumatized many more.”
Boyd accepted a plea deal from Hennepin County to testify against Burris last November.
Burris' sentencing is scheduled March 24th.
