A suspect is dead and an officer is wounded after an early-morning exchange of gunfire outside an apartment complex in Richfield.
Richfield police were called out just before 3:30 Wednesday morning on a reported car prowler near the 7500 block of Morgan Avenue.
A suspect led police on a foot chase and ended up between an apartment complex near 76th Street and Penn Avenue.
At one point, shots were fired after Richfield police say that suspect brandished a firearm. The suspect was shot and killed while one Richfield police officer was shot in the hand.
That officer was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center and is expected to survive.
Names of the suspect and officer are not known at this time. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension will lead the investigation in the incident.
