On Friday, Target shared that it will only carry Pride Month merchandise online and in “select stores” this year after receiving pushback over last year’s campaign and designs.

The company shared in a memo that its Pride collection will be available online and in select stores “based on historical sales performance.”

The retailer shared in a statement to The Hill that it would offer a collection of Pride products, including “adult apparel, home products, and food and beverage, which has been curated based on guest insights and consumer research.”

Last year, Target removed specific items from its shelves after receiving intense backlash from customers over swimsuits labeled as “tuck friendly,” The Associated Press reported.

The “tuck friendly” swimsuits help trans women who have not had gender-affirming surgery conceal their private parts, according to the AP.

In response to the backlash, several Target stores in the south removed the collections from the floor.

This then resulted in more backlash from customers who said Target was giving in to anti-LGBTQ groups.

As for this upcoming pride month, Target shared that it is planning on supporting “local Pride events in our hometown of Minneapolis and around the country.”

“At Target, we know our business thrives when we create experiences that foster a sense of belonging. That’s why we support and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community during Pride Month and year-round,” the company said.
