A Twin Cities teenager who was tried as an adult for the killing of his ex-girlfriend receives a 99-year prison sentence.
Fenan Uso was 17 when authorities say he shot and killed 18-year old Jayden Kline in December of 2023 outside her family's Fridley home.
Uso told investigators they had gotten into an argument while leaving Rosedale Mall and admitting to shooting her. In a statement to investigators, Uso said he and Kline argued after leaving the mall. As she got out of the van, he shot Kline then drove off.
Burnsville police later arrested Uso in the van. Officers recovered a handgun that had been reported stolen in Iowa.
Originally, Uso was charged in juvenile court with second-degree murder with intent, not premeditated. But a grand jury changed it to premeditated first-degree murder as an adult in July, 2024.
According to the sentencing, Uso must serve at least 66 years behind bars.
