Just in time for the holidays, a new store is on the way to the Twin Cities. Well, sort of new. It's also old.

If you don't want to grow up, and are a Toys "R" Us kid, they have a new store set to open inside the Mall of America later this week.

All of the original Toys "R"Us stores in the U.S. closed following the company's bankruptcy and liquidation in 2018.

The new owner has been working to revive the brand with a New Jersey store. The two-story toy emporium is located in the American Dream mega-mall in East Rutherford. American Dream is the country's second largest mall behind Bloomington, Minnesota's Mall of America.

The company said the Mall of America provided the "perfect mix of entertainment and retail."

The new Mall of America store is scheduled to open on Friday, November 17 on Level 1 East, with more than 11,000 square feet of retail space.

The original company was founded in 1957 and its first store was built in April 1948. Their headquarters were located in Parsippany-Troy Hills, New Jersey, in the New York metropolitan area.

The rise of big box retailers and online shopping started to hurt Toys "R" Us and they lost their massive share of the toy market. The company was further hampered by a significant debt load and the company filed for bankruptcy in 2017 and 2018. They closed all stores in the U.S., UK, and Australia, with the last U.S. stores closing in 2021.
