An emotional scene inside a courtroom in western Wisconsin where prosecutors have offered gruesome details of a stabbing on the Apple River near Somerset almost two years ago.

St. Croix (Wisconsin) County attorney Karl Anderson explained how a confrontation between groups of people tubing down the river in July of 2022 turned deadly.

There's video of the scene, showing Nicolai Miu stabbing several people. That includes killing 17-year old Isaac Schuman.

"Isaac was stabbed in the chest and the torso, cut clean through two ribs," said Anderson. "He died almost immediately."

Miu was tubing on the river and claims he was defending himself when a group of young people turned on him and accused him of looking for little girls.

Twin Cities Defense Attorney Jack Rice, who is not associated with the case, says Miu's attorney will try to argue it was self defense.

"And that, in fact, all he was doing is responding to a threat, first from that first group of tubers and then potentially that other group of tubers that came along afterward. And so, he's going to be able to establish that too," says Rice.

Five teens in total were stabbed. Defense attorney are expected to give their opening statements after Anderson concludes. The trial is expected to last up to two weeks.
