Minneapolis School District officials say classes would resume on Tuesday at the earliest if teachers ratify the contract proposal that was hammered out last week.

This comes as ratification voting wraps up on Sunday.

The pact was finalized by negotiators early Friday and includes language on class size, pay raises, and mental health care for students.

When announcing the tentative deal, school leaders were hopeful that kids would be able to return to the classroom on Monday.

The two sides met on Friday to determine restart procedures, if the teachers ratified the agreement.

In a statement posted on the school district website, administrators said that talks on Friday "... revealed the very real need for teachers, ESPs and principals to have a day to ensure the best possible welcome for students."

Teachers went on strike March 8, exactly three weeks prior to the expected re-start date, idling class for around 30,000 students.

To make up for lost days, union members are asking to add 42 minutes to the school day starting April first, and start summer vacation on June 24th.
