Officials with this weekend’s Twin Cities Pride festival and parade are looking for volunteers to help pull off the yearly celebration.
If you don’t like the crowds, there are mid-week and early morning set-up shifts available, or you can put yourself right in the middle of Sunday’s parade action, helping manage the flow.
Executive Director Andi Otto says it’s the volunteers who make the event happen, and there are dozens of openings to choose from.
Otto says Minneapolis is home to one of the largest LGBTQ populations in the country for a reason.
“I think people here are very, very welcoming. We’re so proud, and we have so many allies in our community,” Otto said. “I think Minnesota is just a place where you can come and be yourself and not be afraid to stand up for whoever you are and be whoever you are in your most authentic self.”
Otto says they’re expecting 600,000 people at this weekend’s festival and parade.
There is also free parking for volunteers at this weekend’s Pride Fest. For a list of volunteer opportunities, visit tcpride.org.
