Crews have now recovered bodies of two construction workers killed Friday when the trench they were working in collapsed in St. Paul's Highland Park neighborhood.

The collapse happened around 3:00 p.m. at a construction site on the seven-hundred block of Mt. Curve Boulevard.

Rescue crews arrived at the scene, but not soon enough to save the two workers.

"Due to the amount of time elapsed with getting the trench safe and secure so we could have crews enter and not have any further collapse, this has unfortunately has moved to a recovery," said St. Paul assistant fire chief Matt Simpson.

"We train for this every single day," he said. "Time was not on our side to make that difference today."

The names of the two who were killed are not released, and officials have not revealed what company they were working for.
