Three shootings in St. Paul over a six-hour span have left three people dead.

The latest homicide occurring around 4:30 a.m. Friday, at the Green Line Central Station on Fifth Street. Officers responded to a report of shots fired and found the victim on the light rail platform with gunshot wounds. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

As of Friday morning, the Green Line is currently delayed in both directions as police continue to investigate and search for a suspect. Replacement bus service was being provided between Union Depot and Robert Street stations. Light rail trains were operating west of the 10th Street Station.

There have now been 18 homicides in St. Paul this year. At this time last year there were 12 homicides.

Nearly six hours earlier, the first of the shootings occurred. Police responded to the 200-block of Maryland Avenue West in St. Paul’s north end around 10:30 p.m. Thursday. A wounded man was found lying in the pavement near Matilda Street and was pronounced dead at the scene. There are no arrests.

Police are asking for the public’s help in the case.

“We need the public’s help to put a stop to the gun violence,” St. Paul Police Department’s public information officer Steve Linders said. “We’ve already had more than 90 people shot in our city. That’s at least 10 more than this time last year.”

The second shooting, less than two miles away from the first, occurred on the 400-block of Sherburne Avenue just after midnight. One man was shot and later died at the hospital. Police say it appears to be a case of domestic violence. A 28-year-old woman was arrested in connection with the case on a charge of aggravated assault.
