Two women are in the hospital after being in car that was struck by a train in Robbinsdale.
Police Captain John Elder says warning lights and sounds at the crossing were activated before the crash which happened about 9:20 Monday morning. The train was sounding its horn when it crossed at 42nd and Railroad Avenues.
"The crash was caught on a squad car camera for the Minnesota State Patrol," Elder told WCCO Radio. "A captain for the State Patrol was going down 42nd approaching that intersection when the crash happened."
Elder says the driver is 69-years old and her passenger is 88.
"Speaking with a few witnesses, and again preliminarily, this was not a high-speed on the Rav 4's part, and it is believed that they just simply didn't see the warning lights or hear the sounds."
Extrication was required to remove the two occupants of the SUV. The driver is in serious but stable condition and the passenger has not yet been stabilized according to police.
