The Minnesota Department of Health along with Governor Tim Walz are set to give an update regarding Minnesota's COVID-19 vaccine distribution on Tuesday.
Last week, Governor Walz told WCCO Radio's Dave Lee that the state received just 60 percent of the originally promised Pfizer vaccines.
Despite the lower-than-expected vaccine amounts, the rollout is getting praise from Hennepin Healthcare's Dr. David Hilden, who joined the WCCO Radio Morning News on Tuesday.
"We vaccinated over 1,000 people at our hospital this past weekend and I'm not personally aware of single one who had to miss a day of work or anything aftewards," Dr. Hilden told Dave Lee. "The early reports are, at least from Hennepin Healthcare, that it's been just a really successful rollout."
Dr. Hilden himself rolled up his sleeve and received the vaccine last Friday.
"I do see patients in the hospital on our COVID units," Dr. Hilden said. "It was a breeze."
Hennepin Healthcare received around 1,500 doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in the initial shipment. More doses are expected to arrive this week, along with the Moderna vaccine.
"I think for our first wave, which includes healthcare workers, it will just be a matter of a few weeks before everyone in that first wave gets it," he said. "Then we will roll it out to phase two, which will go out into the larger community, just in the month of January."
