A three-mile stretch of Shepard and Warner Roads adjacent to downtown St. Paul remains closed because of rising waters of the nearby Mississippi River.

The roadway closed April 16 because of the flood threat, and was scheduled to reopen Tuesday, exactly a month later.

St. Paul and Ramsey County public works officials say recent rainfall prompted their decision.

The National Weather Service forecasts the Mississippi will reach moderate flood stage of 16.1 feet by Sunday, May 21.

Major flood stage level in St. Paul is 17 feet.

With the closure still in effect, officials say Sibley and Jackson streets in downtown St. Paul will also remain closed to vehicle traffic from Shepard Road to Kellogg Boulevard.

There are also still some parkland areas, trails, and facilities in St. Paul that are closed because of the flood threat.
