For the first time we're hearing from the wife of Melissa and Mark Hortman's alleged killer Vance Boelter.
In a statement released through her attorney, Jenny Boelter expresses her condolences to the Hortman and Hoffman families, saying they are appalled and horrified by what occurred.
Boelter says the violence does not at all align with their beliefs as a family, and is a betrayal of everything they hold true as tenets of their Christian faith.
Jenny Boelter also claims she was not pulled over by police, but agreed to meet with law enforcement at an Onamia convenience store, where she says she and her children answered questions, provided all items requested, and cooperated with all searches.
Boelter also thanked law enforcement for their diligent and professional efforts, and for apprehending Vance and protecting others from further harm.
Vance Boelter will make his next federal court appearance Friday (June 27). He does not have any further appearances scheduled in state court.
Boelter also allegedly shot Minnesota State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife who are both expected to recover, and targeted at least two other state lawmakers on June 14 with several other names listed including prominent Democrats in and out of Minnesota.
According to an FBI affidavit, law enforcement found a gun and ammunition, as well as passports and cash inside Jenny Boelter's car. Authorities say she told investigators they consider themselves "preppers," in that they prepare for major or potentially-catastrophic events.
