Buxton not starting Saturday after leaving Friday's game with sore right knee

Twins center fielder Byron Buxton was not in the starting lineup on Saturday in Boston, according to CBS Sports, after leaving Friday night's game in Boston with a sore right knee.

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal is reporting that an MRI revealed no structural damage to Buxton's knee, but he's expected to miss a week of playing time.

Buxton left the game in the first inning Friday with the Boston Red Sox after sliding into second base. Buxton hit a pop-up to shallow left field wasn't caught. The Twins center fielder slid into second base for a double, but he immediately slammed his hand into the ground in apparent frustration. He got up and immediately left the field, walking under his own power with no noticeable limp.

"Obviously, he was feeling some real discomfort,'' said Twins manager Rocco Baldelli after the game. "He plays through a lot. He's a tough guy and he always wants to be on the field. I think in this instance, he knew it was something he was not going to be able to play today with.''

Buxton had an MRI on his right knee after the game, and results have not been made public yet.
