The Minnesota Twins have struggled throughout the first third of the season, despite spending some time atop the AL Central. Among those having issues at the plate is the team’s big off-season signing, Carlos Correa.

Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey joined News Talk 830 WCCO’s Chad Hartman to talk about Correa’s play, the possibility of seeing Byron Buxton in the outfield, Sonny Gray’s contract situation, and more related to the club.

When it comes to how the Twins have played as a whole, many fans have felt underwhelmed by their performances.

Falvey shared that the front office understands the situation, and they don’t want to settle for a game or two above .500.

“We have very high expectations of our group, and we certainly think this is a team that’s talented and capable of competing with anybody in the American League,” Falvey said. “Where our record stands today, we should be better. We could be better.”

When it comes to the team’s pitching and bullpen, Falvey says that he has been impressed with what they have accomplished, but he is looking for the team to do more offensively.

One person missing offensively as of late is Twins shortstop Correa.

Falvey shared that he has “every expectation” Correa will bounce back and show he can carry the team just like he did last year. Despite what some might think, Falvey says that “No one is more frustrated about [his play] than Carlos.”

“At the end of the day, he’s a very talented player, he’s a great leader for us, he shows up every day playing great defense, that never goes into a slump for him,” Falvey said.
