Baseball fans can expect a new game starting today: one that moves more quickly due to some of the new rules being implemented by Major League Baseball.

Radio voice of the Twins Cory Provus joined News Talk 830 WCCO’s Adam Carter and Jordana Green to discuss the most obvious change: the pitch clock.

“When you are at a game in person, you will notice it right away. You will be shocked at how quickly things are moving, when you’re watching it live,” Provus said.

A major part of the rule changes has to do with cutting down on the length of games or downtime when action isn’t happening on the field.

Provus says that not only will we notice the difference, but he thinks the MLB will be ecstatic once the results begin to show.

“I think if we see games on average, and we get to June or July, and they’re average [2 hours and 45 minutes], people will be thrilled,” Provus said. “I think Major League Baseball will be thrilled that the game has chopped off that amount of time.”

Another change on the field involves the bases, which the league has made three inches larger. The MLB says it will create more action by having players attempt stolen bases and will also help reduce collisions.

Twins and Royals pregame kicks off for the first time this season at 2:30 p.m. The season’s first pitch will be thrown just after 3 p.m. on your home for Twins Baseball WCCO Radio and on the Audacy app.
