A case of COVID may have been a lifesaver for a Minnesota Viking.
Linebacker Cameron Smith is back practicing with the team after having open-heart surgery last year. Smith was born with a heart defect, but it went undetected until Smith tested positive for the coronavirus last July.
Smith says he got the go-ahead to return to football this past March from his doctors in Philadelphia.
"It's easy to have doubts in your mind," Smith told reporters Wednesday. "But I never doubted it. I knew that when I was going there, I was like, I'm not expecting to hear anything but I'm ready to go."
Smith is taking part in the Vikings Organized Team Activities, which are going on now.
