Some of the earliest significant damage in downtown New Orleans landed in the middle Decatur street, taking down a street light Sunday afternoon.
A significantly large chunk of debris could be seen resting at the intersection of Toulouse and Decatur streets in downtown New Orleans, adjacent to the Shops at Jax Brewery.
No one is believed to have been injured, according to a report.
It's unclear exactly what building the debris blew from, but it landed on an extension pole holding a streetlight, which was taken down. The debris was unlikely to be addressed by emergency crews for some time with Hurricane Ida's winds continuing to pick up as the storm moved through Louisiana.
Ida made landfall in Port Fourchon as a Category 4 storm with winds reaching as high as 150 mph, along with deadly storm surge and rainfall totals expected to reach 20 inches in some areas by Monday morning.
