SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – California Gov. Gavin Newsom is reportedly revving up a 2024 presidential run against Vice President Kamala Harris in the event President Joe Biden opts not to run for reelection.

According to a CNBC report, Newsom and Harris "are among a group of Democrats who are making moves their associates say appear to be steps to prepare for a White House run" if Biden steps aside as the party's nominee.

The group also includes Colorado Gov. Jared Polis.

Harris "has been in touch with a small group of allies who helped her organize her successful California campaigns for district attorney, attorney general and U.S. Senate," the network reported. An anonymous source said the effort has included "private meetings" with select supporters in her residences and conversations with Vanessa Getty, model and wife of Bill Getty.

An unnamed Wall Street executive told CNBC they've also heard from Newsom "in recent weeks," but stopped short of saying Harris and Newsom asked for support in a potential White House run.

Harris has previously said she plans to run as Biden's VP on the 2024 ticket.

Newsom has said many times he has no plans to run for president in 2024.

For his part, Biden has not officially announced a run for reelection, though speculation is that he will.
