Jaguar Land Rover Automotive, the United Kingdom-based carmaker behind the two iconic vehicle brands, has announced that it will pause shipments to the United States.
The company shared in a statement this week that the decision is a “short-term action” it would be taking because of President Donald Trump’s tariffs. It added that it would be taking time to develop a longer-term plan to accommodate the economic landscape.
“The USA is an important market for JLR’s luxury brands,” the automaker said in a statement sent to media outlets.
“As we work to address the new trading terms with our business partners, we are taking some short-term actions, including a shipment pause in April, as we develop our mid- to longer-term plans.”
Trump announced at the end of March that he would be placing a 25% tariff on imported cars and light trucks, which took effect on April 3. Trump has also issued reciprocal tariffs on dozens of countries, leaving many wondering what other imports might slow down in the coming weeks or rise in price.
According to the Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders, the U.S. imports nearly 20% of British-made cars, making it the second-biggest importer after the European Union.
With Trump’s tariffs on the vehicles already making some car manufacturers rethink their strategy, even more changes could soon be coming.
