Plenty of things have been done in the name of religion, but this might be a first: A Florida man attempted to steal a medical helicopter because he claimed he was fleeing the anti-Christ.
Civil engineer and Florida State grad Riley Ferrer, 28, allegedly crashed his truck into a car on I-75 near Tampa, and fled into the woods.
While first responders tried to rescue the two people in the other car who had been injured in the crash, he allegedly reappeared, rushed past them, and tried to get away in the rescue helicopter.
Emergency responders were preparing patients who'd allegedly been injured by his erratic driving for transport.
But they still managed to capture him before he could board, so his attempted hijacking was unsuccessful.
When questioned about what he was doing, Ferrer told law enforcement that he witnessed the anti-Christ just before the crash.
He was taken to Tampa General Hospital–Brooksville but had to be physically escorted inside after refusing to comply with authorities.
He has been charged with resisting officers and burglary, and a $3,000 bond was ordered for the resisting arrest charge. Ferrer is being held with no bond for the burglary charge.
The condition of the other two people involved in the crash is not immediately clear, per the NY Post.
"The pacing, non-responsiveness, and erratic conduct logged in the arrest paperwork match what clinicians describe as an acute psychotic episode, not impairment from drugs or alcohol. No toxicology results have been released," per the International Business Times.
