Middendorf's Manchac is back after its community was hit hard by Hurricane Ida.

According to WBRZ 2, customers gathered at the restaurant to enjoy Louisiana seafood and air-conditioning Friday. Even then, many locals were still without power. Others were just returning to areas they evacuated to during the storm.
“It’s amazing. My wife and them have been cooking so much,” said Kevin Robertson, who drove his family from Reserve, according to WBRZ 2. “We've been 10 days, 11 days without power, you know. So I told her, ‘Well Manchac’s open up. Let’s go and eat’.”
By Thursday, electricity had been fully restored at the Ackers, La., eatery. While it also has an outdoor dock, customers were only allowed inside since the dock will require repairs.
“Our dock is pretty much messed up, but they’re determined people,” said Manager Diane Hoult. “They love this restaurant and less than two weeks we’re open. We’re ready for business.”
In addition to the repairs, Hoult said Middendorf’s is also struggling with a staffing shortage. Some employees have damaged homes and cars following the storm.
“We have a lot of individuals without power. A lot have left the state. Cars were damaged. A lot of people don’t have transportation right now. Some of our staff is picking up members to get them to work,” Hoult explained.
Despite these challenges, she said the restaurant is here to stay and serve the community.
“Middendorf’s will always be here. Nothing’s going to stop this place from opening up,” Hoult said.
Diners can visit the restaurant from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and Sunday according to Facebook.
Future hours had not been announced as of early Saturday evening.
