Local Muslim leaders are decrying the 6th arson attack on a Twin Cities mosque this year, with the most recent attack taking place in St. Paul early Wednesday morning.
Executive Director of the Council on American Islamic Relations Jaylani Hussein says, thankfully, the Oromo American Twhid Islamic Center on Dale Street was not occupied at the time of this morning’s fire.
However, Hussein called attention to the recent increase of attacks throughout the state which he says is leading the nation.
“The majority of the attacks against mosques in America are happening in our state,” Hussein said.
St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter said that he’s “disgusted” to once again be speaking about an attack at mosques in the state.
St. Paul fire officials say the mosque was being remodeled before the fire and is a total loss. Police are looking for suspects.
