People injured after shots fired in South Carolina mall

According to the Columbia, S.C., police department, 12 people have been injured during a shooting incident at the Columbia Centre mall.

Police first confirmed reports of shots fired at the mall Saturday afternoon. They said there have been 10 gunshot wounds reported, as well as two injuries by people running for safety. No fatalities were reported as of early Saturday evening.

“They are receiving medical attention,” said police Saturday afternoon. “The extent of injuries unknown at this time.” Officers have been evacuating the mall and getting people to safety since arriving at the scene.

Authorities said that a 911 call came in at 2 p.m. and that there was a significant law enforcement response. People were either evacuated or told to shelter in place. An area to pick up loved ones was established nearby at a Fairfield in at 320 Columbiana Drive.

As of 3:25 EST Saturday, police had not released information about the possible shooter or shooters or identities of the victims.

Later on, police said that the incident “may have stemmed from an isolated conflict between the armed suspects.” Police have asked the public to provide footage or information about the incident.
