NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- FDNY crews rescued a dog from the Harlem River on Tuesday after someone threw the pup from a bridge, fire officials said.

FDNY Marine Unit 4 responded to a report of a dog in distress in the river on Tuesday afternoon.

When rescuers arrived, a person on shore was holding the dog to keep his head above the water.

Firefighters were able to bring the dog aboard a fireboat and take him to shore, the FDNY said.

Photos from the FDNY show the drenched pup being pulled onto the boat.

The dog was given medical attention after the rescue, reportedly at the Animal Care Centers of NYC–Brooklyn. It's unclear what happened to the dog after that, but it sounds like he was recovering well.

“Without the quick response from both the civilian and FDNY members, the outcome for this animal could have been very different,” the fire department said in an Instagram post.

There's no indication police have tracked down the person who threw the dog from the bridge.
