A new poll shows Americans want former President Donald Trump’s criminal trials wrapped up before they’re asked to cast a vote in the 2024 Presidential election.
Trump, who served as President from 2016-2020, lost a bid for a second term to current President Joe Biden, and 2024 is shaping up to be a rematch between the two.
The aftermath of that 2020 election is one of the reasons Trump is under federal scrutiny, with both the Department of Justice and the state of Georgia set to try him for charges related to his alleged attempts to subvert that election and remain in office.
The poll, conducted by CNN, shows 48% say it’s essential that a verdict be handed down in that trial before ballots are cast this year.
Another 16% would prefer a verdict.
Only 11% of respondents think the trial should be postponed until after the election, while 25% say the timing of the trial does not factor into their voting decision.
