The tech industry continues to see downsizing with over 61,000 workers across 130 companies being shown the door so far in 2025, according to Layoffs.fyi, after over 150,000 were let go in 2024.
In April alone more than 23,000 people were laid off, with Intel announcing 21,000 workers were going to be taken off the books following $821 million in losses reported in Q1. This coming after last year's August announcement of workforce reductions to the tune of 15,000 jobs by CEO Lip-Bu Tan.
Just a week ago Microsoft announced their plans to layoff 3% of their 228,000 workers internationally, a move that would eliminate over 6,800 employees.
And Walmart announcing today cuts of nearly 1,500 members of it's Global Tech team in an effort to trim costs, just days after announcing they would be forced to hike prices for customers due to tariffs.
While some cite economic headwinds, investor pressure, company direction, or industry-specific reasons, the tech industry overall is continuing to experience overall downsizing.
