Have you started on your taxes yet?

April 18 is this year’s due date to file your taxes since the usual day, April 15, falls on a weekend.

Minnesota Revenue Commissioner Paul Marquardt spoke with News Talk 830 WCCO about the impending tax day and what Minnesotans should do to be ready to file.

“If you have not filed yet, the best way still to do that is electronically and also to choose direct deposit. That’s the most convenient way to get things processed and to get your refund,” Marquardt said.

Marquardt says the state is expecting 3 million returns this year. He says some people may qualify for free tax preparation help from the state.

Those interested in free tax preparation assistance from the state revenue department are encouraged to visit the department’s website.

Marquardt says residents should also keep in mind that COVID relief tax credits are gone this year, so any refunds will likely be smaller than they were in 2022.
