The looming federal government shutdown could have a major effect across the nation.
For Minnesota, one of many consequences would include twenty-thousand federal workers either being furloughed or forced to work for no pay.
Second district congresswoman Angie Craig says she would not accept pay during a federal government shutdown.
"I've worked with a group called, The Problem Solvers, 32 Democrats and two Republicans," says Craig. "We have a compromise proposal that would keep the government open, and unfortunately Speaker McCarthy has indicated he won't bring that to House floor either."
Minnesota third district congressman Dean Phillips is also getting critical of McCarthy.
"One person is standing in the way of preventing a really tragic shutdown, it's not just that the government is closing for a few days, this is peoples lives," Phillips told WCCO's Chad Hartman.
A shutdown will effectively begin early Sunday morning if Congress is not able to pass a funding plan.
