State health department confirms second Omicron variant case in Minnesota

The state health department has confirmed a second Minnesotan who has contracted the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

According to health department officials, the adult is connected with Minnesota State Mankato and was vaccinated.

The person also has recovered after developing mild symptoms in late November.

Students and staff at MSU Mankato were notified of the diagnosis through an email sent out on Friday.

The diagnosis prompted Minnesota State to take extra safety precautions during yesterday's fall semester commencement ceremonies.

Everyone who was on the stage, and all who picked up their diplomas, were required to wear a mask.

Minnesota's first confirmed case of the Omicron varient was a 30-year-old Minneapolis man who had attended an anime convention in New York City.
