Proctor High School's football coach has resigned as a criminal investigation into a locker room sexual assault between players which led to the cancellation of the season.
Derek Parendo will be on paid personal leave from all of his teaching and coaching positions in the district for the rest of the school year, according to Proctor Schools Superintendent John Engleking.
The resignation takes effect when the school year ends, Engleking said.
Parendo has been head coach of the Rails football team since the 2008 season.

The Rails haven't played since a 54-8 loss at Esko on Sept. 17 that dropped their record to 0-3.
The team's game the following week against Aitkin was officially recorded as a 2-0 forfeit.
St. Louis County officials continue to investigate the incident which was apparently captured on video and shared on social media.
So far, no charges have been filed but the students who were allegedly involved have not returned to classes.
It's not known how long it will take to complete the investigation.
