Officials now say the historic John Stevens House in Minnehaha Park was the target of arsonists, and they're asking the public's help in finding out what happened.

The John Stevens House was damaged by fire three times in the past three months, on August 30th, September 20th, and October first.

Minneapolis Park Board officials are offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the identification of those responsible for the fires.

The Park Police investigator supervising the criminal investigation is Lt. Mark Swanson.

Those wishing to offer information about the case can contact him at 612-230-6561 or parkpolice@minneapolisparks.org.

Anyone contacting the Park Police directly will be eligible for the reward.

Much of the fire damage is in the rear of the building and part of a porch.

Officials are also concerned if any of the damaged artifacts that were inside the building can be saved.

Dating to 1850, the John Stevens House is considered one of the first buildings in Minneapolis.

It first went up along the Mississippi River where the Minneapolis post office is now located.

It was moved to Minnehaha Park in 1896.
