The temporary fencing that has surrounded the Minnesota state capitol building in St. Paul for more than a year is coming down.
Its dismantling began Tuesday after being erected following the unrest surrounding the killing of George Floyd last May and June.
It remained in place during the tumultuous presidential election in November and January's insurrection at the US Capitol building in Washington.
The chain links were slated to come down following the 2021 legislative session which officially ended last month.

Crews say it will take several days to remove the fencing, as well as concrete barriers.

The capitol building itself has been closed to the public due to the pandemic.
It's unclear when it will reopen.
