Embattled Minnesota state representative John Thompson of St. Paul has reportedly apologized to the sergeant he accused of racially profiling him during a traffic stop earlier this month.

There are still calls for Thompson to step down, with Gov. Walz appearing Friday on the WCCO Morning News, saying his stance is clear.

"At some point in time, elected officials have to be held in a higher standard," Walz told WCCO's Mike Max. "You lose credibility and effectiveness. We need to move on."

The St Paul Police Department says Johnson showed up  “unexpectedly” and had a “very brief” conversation with the sergeant.

The traffic stop on July 4th marked a cascade of revelations regarding the first-term lawmaker, raising concerns about his residency, license disposition, and domestic violence allegations dating back nearly a decade.

Earlier this week, Thompson was convicted of a misdemeanor obstruction charge.

There have been calls from both sides of the aisle for him to step down from his seat at the capitol.

So far, he has not.
