What does all the recent rain mean for Minnesota? Any flooding concerns? Did we break any droughts? WCCO's Ari Bergeron and the National Weather Service help break things down.

Although the metro received roughly 1.5 to 2-inches of rain overnight, Caleb Grunzke with the National Weather Service said some areas received much more.

"Prior Lake, one observer had 3.78 inches of rain, near Eagan and Woodbury, 3.2 inches," says Grunzke.

Are there any flooding concerns?

"We do have minor flooding currently occurring near Morton, Minnesota," Grunzke says. "And Montevideo, Minnesota. But those are also trending down and should go below minor flood stage by Saturday morning."

Are any areas still in a drought?

"There's no drought conditions aside from say, up in Warroad and Roseau," Grunzke adds.

Grunzke does says it's nothing to be too concerned with.

This latest rainfall comes on the heels of some extreme heat we experienced over the past few days - and that high humidty dropped some serious precipitation.

Grunzke says the fluctuation in weather isn't anything out of the ordinary.

"On the short term, not really. That's actually kind of normal that we get the really hot, humid weather followed by thunderstorms," he says. "You just have so much heat and humidity, that's fuel for thunderstorms, that when a cold front sweeps through, basically you get your lift for thunderstorms, tapping into all that unstable air. So that's not really an abnormal thing."

WCCO-TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Shaffer says after Wednesday morning's early rain, expect some clearing and much less humid conditions. He says partly cloudy skies with a high in the mid-70s is coming for Thursday along with a dry Friday. Some more scattered rain could move in Saturday morning.
