The hottest and most humid day of this current heat wave is behind us, with the heat index making it feel like well over 100 degrees Monday.
And while that swampy, thick air is mostly behind us, WCCO-TV Chief Meteorologist Chris Shaffer tells Vineeta Sawkar on the Morning News that it's still going to be warm Tuesday, and the rest of this week. The National Weather Service is still issuing a warning for the Twin Cities and southeastern Minnesota.
"Heat advisory this time, so not the extreme heat warning," Shaffer says. "Bottom line, it'll feel up to 100 versus into the 100s with the heat and humidity. Bit of a breeze again, 91 the afternoon high. Any rain we see likely isn't until overnight heading toward early tomorrow morning."
Towards Rochester and into southern Minnesota and Wisconsin, there is still an extreme heat warning.
Good news heading towards the 4th of July, with the forecast indicating high temperatures will continue to decrease every day into the weekend.
The precautions are still out there: drink lots of water, take breaks in air conditioning, and don't exert yourself when working outside in the sun.
But fireworks and outdoor activities could be affected by some moisture. Shaffer says the weekend could feature a cooling rain.
"Not a deluge, not a washout," he adds. "It's just too far out to really pinpoint firework timing, but I do know it is going to be hot and humid both weekend days with highs in the upper 80s. So good stuff if you're going to a cabin, hanging at a pool or all that. You'll appreciate it because it'll cool you down."
