Heat Advisory: Twin Cities could topple 100-degree heat index again Monday

A Heat Advisory runs from noon until 6:00 p.m. Monday night across much of southern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities.

"We've had nine consecutive days with highs in the 90s," says WCCO-TV chief meteorologist Chris Shaffer. "Today, if we reach it and I think we will, we will be the 10th, which will be the third longest streak of 90-degree days in over 150 years."

Heat index values could topple 100 again in the Twin Cities thanks to the humidity.

"So, this afternoon, it could feel 95 to 100 with the heat and humidity," says Shaffer. "92 probably the high. Then the wind is going to shift behind that front coming from the northwest and you're going to notice it right away."

Shaffer says that is the good news. We'll see a bit of a cool down Tuesday and Wednesday.

"It's going to bring in much less humid air and much cooler air," Shaffer adds. "So, our highs the next couple of days in the low 80s, which is actually below average."

Of course that won't last either. A major heat up to end the week is also on the way, Shaffer says.
