It’s hard not to get excited about all the possibilities 2020 brings.
It’s a new decade, a new chance to finally live that globetrotting, adventurous lifestyle you’ve always dreamed about — even if your finances still look a lot like they did in the aughts.
Luckily, some 20 years into the new millennium, there are plenty of ways to track down affordable ways to travel, like the work Kayak did recently to identify the cheapest places to travel in 2020.
Rather than compare puddle hoppers to intercontinental jetliners, the travel site looked at destinations with the greatest drop in price year-over-year, highlighting the biggest sale prices to snag now. Whether you’ve got a specific trip in mind and you’re wondering when to fly, or you already know a time of year when you will just need to get away, here are the cheapest places to fly for each month of 2020.
January: Osaka, Japan
Price drop: 35%
Median airfare: $652
If you’re considering a hop across the Pacific to visit Japan, it’s worth flying in to Osaka rather than Tokyo for a steep discount on your plane seat. Once you arrive, take advantage of the country’s killer train system to explore the rest of the archipelago.
February: Colorado Springs, Colorado
Price drop: 20%
Median airfare: $263
Get ready for a ski vacation and pick up some cheap tix to Colorado for the winter season. Just don’t bring your own skis, which will add a hefty baggage fee to any flight.
March: Melbourne, Australia
Price drop: 16%
Median airfare: $1,004
A grand for a plane ticket may not seem like much of a discount, but that’s a huge savings over the regular cost of a round-world flight to Australia. Fall in the Australian city is lovely, with highs in the ‘70s.
April: San Juan, Puerto Rico
Price drop: 31%
Median airfare: $256
PR has long been an easy vacation for mainlander Americans, but the island is even more attractive with extra cheap flights in April. Puerto Rico could certainly use the tourist dollars right about now too, so don’t hesitate to book.

Median airfare: $743
How does a getaway on the famed island of Santorini sound right about now? How about a trip for just over $700?
June: Albuquerque, New Mexico

Median airfare: $297
Explore the Southwest this summer with a trip to Albuquerque. The NM town boasts amazing regional food, some of the most important Native American sites in the country, and striking scenery that will blow up on your IG by July.
July: Charleston, South Carolina

If you’re feeling a little overheated come August, head north like a bird to Reykjavik. The Icelandic capital has plenty of unique culture and foods to explore as you cool off in Europe -- then heat up again in the country’s scenic natural hot springs.
September: Big Island, Hawaii
Price drop: 32%
Median airfare: $403
Save a buck or two by foregoing Maui or Honolulu in favor of their big brother, the Big Island of Hawaii. More rural than its tourist-flooded sibs, the Big Island provides lots of lush nature to traverse, volcanoes and waterfalls to dazzle, and those same relaxing Hawaiian vibes you’ve been dreaming of.
October: Belize City, Belize
Price drop: 25%
Median airfare: $385
Entrancing deep blue waters, a calmer pace of life, all the sunshine you can soak up in a month, Belize has the answer to any fall blues in October.
November: Brussels, Belgium
Price drop: 22%
Median airfare: $547
Don’t let the shoulder season scare you off a cheap trip to Brussels in November. The city is grand and idyllic any time of year, and you’ll have the streets to yourself as you explore. Plus, Belgian beer is extra delicious when the weather drops a few degrees.
December: Calgary, Canada
Price drop: 27%

End the year by popping across the border to Canada. Head to Calgary, the thriving gem of Alberta, to check out the city’s energetic arts and food scenes, or use it as a base to travel to the Canadian Rockies.
