Kansas City, Mo. (Audacy Sports/WGR 550) - Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid doesn't want you to overthink things: Patrick Mahomes should be the NFL MVP in 2022.

Following a 30-24 overtime victory over the Houston Texans in Week 15, Reid vouched for Mahomes' MVP candidacy.

“You saw Pat and what he did. I mean, he took care of business today,” Reid said. “He went back to work and worked on it. I mean, you’re talking about a guy that, if he’s not the MVP in the league, I’m not sure what’s wrong with them."

In his first season without Tyreek Hill - who may have 2,000 receiving yards in 2022 with the Miami Dolphins - Mahomes has guided the Chiefs to an 11-3 record. He currently leads the NFL with 4,496 passing yards and 35 passing touchdowns.

Still, Mahomes won the 2018 NFL MVP, and many have kind of come to take his greatness for granted. That could hurt him when voters decide on who they think should win the honor in 2022.

Jalen Hurts has had a breakout season for the 13-1 Philadelphia Eagles, tossing 22 touchdowns to just five interceptions. Additionally, he has 747 rushing yards and 13 touchdown runs.

Meanwhile, Josh Allen is asked to carry his offense, perhaps, more than any quarterback in the league, and his highest finish in MVP voting came when he was runner-up to Aaron Rodgers in 2020.

The aforementioned Hill, Joe Burrow and Justin Jefferson are other players deserving of MVP consideration.

It may be that Mahomes ultimately captures his second NFL MVP, but it's unlikely that he (or anyone else) runs away with the voting this year.
