Atlanta, Ga. (WGR 550) - As the Atlanta Falcons continue their search for a head coach this offseason, they have conducted an interview with one personnel member of the Buffalo Bills.
The Falcons announced on Saturday they have conducted a head coaching interview with Bills interim offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Joe Brady.
Brady is currently in his second season with the Bills after joining the organization as its quarterbacks coach in 2022. He took over the role for Ken Dorsey, who had been promoted within the organization to offensive coordinator after the departure of Brian Daboll to the New York Giants.
After going 5-5 through 10 games this season, the Bills elected to move on from Dorsey, firing him as the offensive play-caller and replacing him with Brady, who served parts of two seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Carolina Panthers under head coach Matt Rhule.
In the final seven games of the 2023 regular season, the Buffalo offense averaged 27 points per-game, 380.7 yards of total offense per-game and totaled 10 team turnovers. That compared to 26.2 points per-game, 370.1 yards of total offense and 18 total team turnovers in 10 games under Dorsey.
The 34-year-old came to fame for his role as the passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach of a Louisiana State University team in the 2019 season that featured Joe Burrow at quarterback, as well as Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson at wide receiver.
Brady had also interviewed for the head coaching role with the Falcons during the 2021 offseason before Atlanta landed on Arthur Smith.
Brady joins a long list of candidates interviewed for the head coaching job in Atlanta. Among the other names to have interviewed with the Falcons includes:
- University of Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh
- Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald
- Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan
- San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks
- Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero
- Ravens assistant head coach and defensive line coach Anthony Weaver
- Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Brian Johnson
- Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Raheem Morris
- Former New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick
Beginning Monday, clubs may conduct in-person or virtual interviews with candidates who are employed by other NFL clubs whose seasons have concluded and are prohibited from conducting initial interviews with candidates who are employed by clubs participating in the Conference Championship Games until the conclusion of the employer club's season.
Brady and the Bills are gearing up to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Divisional Round on Sunday evening at Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park. Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. EST.
